Trump Sets 10-12 Day Deadline for Russia to End Ukraine War

US President Donald Trump has issued a new ultimatum, giving Russia 10 to 12 days to halt its war in Ukraine, expressing frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin's ongoing aggression. Speaking in Scotland during meetings with European leaders, Trump announced the shortened deadline on Monday, scaling back a previous 50-day timeframe set earlier this month.

“I’m going to make a new deadline of about … 10 or 12 days from today,” Trump told reporters while meeting British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. “There’s no reason in waiting. … We just don’t see any progress being made.”

Trump, who is also in Scotland for a golfing trip, has repeatedly voiced disappointment with Putin for continuing attacks on Ukraine despite US efforts to broker peace. He warned of potential sanctions on Russia and tariffs on countries purchasing Russian exports if progress stalls. “There’s no reason to wait. If you know what the answer is going to be, why wait?” Trump said, adding, “I don’t want to do that to Russia. I love the Russian people.” Before his return to the White House in January, Trump had vowed to resolve the three-and-a-half-year conflict within 24 hours, styling himself as a peacemaker. However, he has also expressed irritation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and has been reluctant to act on his tough rhetoric toward Putin, citing their previously amicable relationship.
The Kremlin has yet to respond to the new deadline.
