A US technology firm, Astronomer, has suspended its CEO, Andy Byron, following a viral video from a Coldplay concert at Gillette Stadium, Massachusetts, which captured two individuals in an embrace on the venue’s big screen. The footage, which spread rapidly online, sparked rumours of an affair after Coldplay’s lead singer, Chris Martin, commented, “Either they’re having an affair, or they’re just very shy.”
The video, initially shared on TikTok and viewed millions of times, showed a man and woman swaying to music before quickly ducking from the camera. Social media speculation identified the pair as Byron, who joined Astronomer in July 2023, and Kristin Cabot, the company’s chief people officer since November 2024. Neither has confirmed their involvement, and the BBC has not independently verified their identities.
Astronomer issued a statement on Friday announcing an investigation into the incident, without directly referencing the video. The company denied claims that other employees were involved and clarified that fake statements attributed to Byron circulating online were false. “Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding,” the statement said, emphasising that leaders are expected to uphold high standards of conduct.
Pete DeJoy, co-founder and chief product officer, has been named interim CEO. The incident has fuelled widespread online discussion, with the video becoming a subject of memes and commentary across platforms and television programmes.
