London, UK – Over 200 British lawmakers from across the political spectrum have called on Prime Minister Keir Starmer to recognize a Palestinian state, as public outrage grows over Israel’s ongoing war and blockade in Gaza, which has triggered a severe starvation crisis. The demand was made in an open letter signed by 221 Members of Parliament (MPs) on Friday, July 25, 2025, ahead of a United Nations conference on Palestine scheduled for next week.
The letter, supported by MPs from nine political parties—including Labour, Conservatives, Liberal Democrats, Scottish National Party (SNP), and the Greens—urges Starmer’s Labour government to outline a clear timeline and strategy for recognizing a Palestinian state and advancing the two-state solution. “We are expectant that the outcome of the conference will be the UK Government outlining when and how it will act on its long-standing commitment on a two-state solution; as well as how it will work with international partners to make this a reality,” the letter stated. It emphasized the UK’s influential role due to its historical ties to the region and its position as a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
