Bangladesh Air Force Jet Crashes into School in Dhaka, Killing 31 and Injuring 165

Dhaka, Bangladesh – A Bangladesh Air Force training fighter jet crashed into a two-story building at Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka, on Monday, July 21, 2025, killing 31 people and injuring 165, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The incident occurred when a Chinese-made FT-7 BGI jet, used for training, suffered a mechanical failure shortly after takeoff from the Air Force’s A K Khandaker base in Kurmitola at 1:06 PM. The jet crashed into the school building at 1:18 PM, sparking a fire and causing widespread panic. The Fire Service and Civil Defence were immediately notified and responded to the scene.

Among the deceased, 10 were reported at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, 16 at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), 1 at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, 2 at Lubna General Hospital, 1 at Uttara Adhunik Hospital, and 1 at United Hospital. One of the victims was Masuka Begum, a teacher at Milestone School and College, whose body was retrieved by relatives from the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.

Of the 165 injured, 46 are receiving treatment at the Burn Institute, 28 at CMH, 60 at Uttara Adhunik Hospital, 13 at Lubna General Hospital, 8 at Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Hospital, 3 at Dhaka Medical College, 3 at Kurmitola General Hospital, 2 at United Hospital, 1 at Uttara Crescent Hospital, and 1 at Shaheed Monsur Ali Medical College Hospital.

The crash triggered chaos, with reports of injured children crying and frantic parents rushing to the site. Authorities are investigating the cause of the mechanical failure, as the nation mourns the tragic loss of life in this devastating incident.
