London Metropolitan Police arrested seven men on suspicion of grievous bodily harm following an assault on two individuals outside the Iranian Embassy in Knightsbridge, west London, on Friday morning. The incident, reported at 09:50 BST, is believed to stem from a clash between pro- and anti-Iranian monarchy protesters, with no connections to Israel, authorities confirmed.
Police responded to reports of an altercation at Princes Gate, where two men were injured. The London Ambulance Service (LAS) treated both at the scene, transferring one to a major trauma center and the other to a hospital. Their injuries are not life-threatening.
To prevent further unrest, police imposed conditions banning protests in the area until 13:00 BST on Sunday. An eighth man was arrested for violating this order. The seven suspects remain in custody, with their ages undisclosed. Initial investigations prompted a cordon of the area, which hosts several national embassies, including Iran’s.
An LAS spokesperson reported dispatching multiple units, including ambulance crews and paramedics, to the scene at 09:56 BST. The Met Police initially suggested the clash involved only pro-monarchy protesters but later clarified it involved opposing groups.
