Ceasefire Hopes Rise in Gaza as Netanyahu Convenes Meeting, Trump Urges Deal

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to hold a high-level meeting with senior officials to discuss a potential ceasefire agreement with Hamas in the blockaded Gaza Strip. According to the Times of Israel, the meeting is scheduled for Sunday night (June 29) at the Israeli Defense Forces’ Southern Command headquarters.

The meeting will include Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, other ministers, close aides to Netanyahu, and military officials. The Times of Israel reports that the objective is to explore possibilities for reaching a ceasefire deal with Hamas.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has called for an end to the 20-month-long conflict in Gaza. In a post on Truth Social on Sunday morning, Trump wrote, “Make a deal in Gaza. Bring the hostages home.” The statement is seen as a message to Israel, signaling his push for a ceasefire agreement.

According to the Associated Press, a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas is on the verge of being finalized. Trump’s direct call for a ceasefire comes at a critical juncture. An Israeli official, speaking anonymously to AP, revealed that Netanyahu is planning a visit to the United States next week, indicating ongoing efforts toward a new ceasefire agreement. However, the official did not disclose details of the visit’s agenda.

The mother of a hostage recently stated that delays in reaching a ceasefire are primarily due to Netanyahu, who faces accusations of war crimes
